What is collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body that holds everything together. It is found in your bones, ligaments, tendons, connective tissues and skin, and plays a role in your overall health. The word collagen comes from the Greek word “kolla” meaning glue. Collagen literally acts like glue to provide form and support for your body.

What’s in collagen?

Collagen is composed of a series of amino acids, including glutamine, arginine, proline and glycine. Amino acids are the building blocks for proteins and are essential to synthesizing hormones and moving chemical messages through the body.

As for collagen, amino acids bind together to form procollagen, a precursor for the protein that’s still strong enough to provide strength and structure. To become collagen, procollagen undergoes a grouping process, forming long collagen chains with more than one thousand amino acids. Those chains arrange themselves side by side and bind together into fibrils, or three-dimensional helices. Many of the unique capabilities of collagen – for example, being elastic and forgiving enough to be stretched without tearing – are thanks to the unique properties of these triple helices. They bind closely together to form a dense sheath of cells and act as the foundation of body materials, whether it’s in your epidermis (upper layer of skin), your gut, or anywhere else.

What’s made from collagen?

Your body’s cells, skeleton an internal organs are held together by collagen.

Collagen fibrils bind side by side, these are the foundation of tissues that make up organs, including our largest organ – the skin. Collagen is also a fundamental element of bones, when combined with minerals. It even makes up the majority of tendons and cartilage. Nails, hair, muscles and teeth are also made from collagen.

What types of collagen does Dose & Co products contain?

Dose & Co Collagen Creamers are made using bovine (cow or beef) collagen. Bovine collagen is made from type 1 and 3 collagen, which are the most abundant types created and found in the human body. Bovine collagen is a rich supply of proline and glycine.

What destroys collagen?

Your body is capable of making collagen, and it does so quite well through your first few decades of life. But age, lifestyle choices, and environmental factors can actually destroy the collagen you make. Some of these factors include smoking, poor diet, alcohol consumption and sun exposure. This can lead to faster aging within the body and the appearance of age-related conditions on the outside earlier in life. Many of these factors are the result of unhealthy choices that damage your entire health and well-being.

How does collagen work?

When you begin supplementing with collagen, you are providing your body with a dose of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and collagen molecules. Your body then takes these and delivers them throughout the bodies systems to form new collagen.

Where does your Bovine collagen come from?

Our bovine collagen is sustainably sourced from the USA. It is non-GMO.
